SIGNING OFF....
As the unit and semester come to a close, I am able to reflect on these past 14 weeks which for me have flown right by, this has possibly been one of the busiest semesters in my uni experience so far. Below is the image presented to us by Mirko in the Week 01 lecture, where we were asked to write three notes about the image. Upon visiting that entry post again, I hold similiar reactions to the image, however given the tools learnt during the semester I hm able to expland on greater detail:
It can be seen that this city follows an organic structure which perhaps may have drawn influences from the British as discussed in Week 05, where the urban structure fits to natural topology of land and there is a clear distinction between town an country. Simiarly, as shown in the aerial view, there is a centralised area along the rivers edge, which seems to be distinctly central to public and social involvement. The somewhat condensed arrangement of small houses/cottages portray the city as a thick place, with an established sense of place. The central building as discussed in my early post, continues to act as a landmark to the area where tis structure and walls are able to be seen from many different sections while travelling through the city.
Well, thank you for your time in reading my journal; to finish, below are images of my final individual model submission, the Soleil Tower which. upon its completion in 2012, will be the tallest building in Brisbane at 243meters! I have inserted in the QUT Brisbane model to further investigate its relationship with its context.
It has been a quite surprisingly an interesting semester, where this is a subject I have gained alot from, where both the lectures and tutorials (and group work) have afforded me further tools and also given me a better understanding and appreciation for our urban environment, and the urban nature of countries I will be visiting in the near future. I apologise for any spelling areas I may have missed, and have a good semester break! :D
